“The Palms Spring Music & Scooter Weekender fits perfectly as the missing piece of Palm Springs Modernism .. Tying in subculture, music, and style, all at once.” – Event Organizer Marv Mack
Soulside Productions presents the second annual Palm Springs Music and Scooter Weekender, February 14-16, 2025. Sponsored by Lambretta Club USA & Vespa Club of America
The British-based Mod subculture, which encompassed music, fashion, scooters, cinema, and more, played an integral role in shaping popular culture during the mid-20th century. This influence extended globally throughout the 1960s and continues to resonate today. The term “Mod”, taken from the word Modernists, is frequently mentioned to describe retro Mid-Century Modern Palm Springs culture, without acknowledging its origins. Further details can be found at the bottom of this press release.
Since 2006, Soulside Productions has kept Mod culture alive in Southern California, curating events for those celebrating the era’s fashion and sounds. Palm Springs is the perfect place and Modernism Week is the perfect time for the Palm Springs Music and Scooter Weekender to take place!
The Palm Springs Music and Scooter Weekender brings together sharply dressed fans and followers of 1960s Mod and “rude boy” culture from all over the country and overseas, with numerous DJs spinning 60s R&B, soul, mod, ska, and vintage reggae from original 45 RPM records, a scooter rally, and a Sunday afternoon pool party at Palm Springs’ historic Tiki themed motel, The Caliente Tropics.

Wikipedia Mod (subculture) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mod_(subculture)
Mod, from the word modernist, is a subculture that began in the late 1950s London and spread throughout Great Britain, eventually influencing fashions and trends in other countries. It continues today on a smaller scale. Focused on music and fashion, the subculture has its roots in a small group of stylish London-based young men and women in the late 1950s who were termed modernists because they listened to modern jazz. Elements of the mod subculture include fashion (often tailor-made suits); music (including soul, rhythm and blues, ska and mainly jazz) and motor scooters (usually Lambretta or Vespa). In the mid-1960s when they started to fade out, the subculture listened to rock groups with jazz and blues influences such as the Who and Small Faces. The original mod scene was associated with amphetamine-fuelled all-night jazz dancing at clubs.
