Joshua Tree No-Kill Shelter Announces a New Executive Director

The Board of Directors of the Joshua Tree No-Kill Shelter (formerly Morongo Basin Humane Society) is pleased to announce that Wendy Jordan has been hired to serve as our new Executive Director.

Wendy started her career in veterinary medicine 19 years ago as a licensed Veterinary Technician and has worked in general practice, emergency care, urgent care, ICU, and oncology. She is also trained and specializes in Animal Nutrition and Eastern/naturopathic therapies. As the new Executive Director of the Joshua Tree No-Kill Shelter, she leverages her background in team and operations management, including her experience managing a veterinary hospital, to lead the Board of Directors’ efforts as we upgrade and expand our facilities and services in 2025. Wendy is passionate about supporting our community, and is wholly dedicated to advancing the Shelter through innovative programs, effective leadership, and a deep commitment to animal welfare and advocacy.

We also welcome three new Directors to our Joshua Tree No-Kill Shelter Board: Lindsey Barnett, Sue Watson and Crystal Mason. Our newly elected 2025 Board of Directors consists of: Jennifer Jungwirth and Glen Harris, Co-Presidents; Donna Davies, Vice President; Kathy Ashkins, Secretary; Thomas Snell, Treasurer; Gayle Anderson, Director; Robyn Celia, Director; Lee Joseph, Director; Mimi Mitz, Director; Sue Watson, Director; Lindsey Barnett, Director, and Crystal Mason, Director.

“We are so excited with Wendy’s valuable expertise and experience, her passion for Animal Welfare, and along with our newly increased Board of Directors, we look forward to this new era of our growth and development. We are all so committed to creating the new and improved No-Kill Shelter that our community – and the animals – truly deserve. We expect our first two new kennel buildings to be up and operational this Spring, and that is just the beginning! Because we are privately funded, we really appreciate all the help and continued financial support from our friends, associates and community members who share in our vital mission” states Co-President Glen Harris.

The Morongo Basin Humane Society began in 1972 in the midst of a homeless and abandoned pet crisis in our growing but somewhat isolated Morongo Basin, when Kay Baker donated to us our 3.5 acre property. Community members were able to build the shelter over the next eight years raising $53,000 to pay for it. The Shelter officially opened in 1981. We are a privately funded 501c(3), and are currently the ONLY No-Kill Shelter in the entire region. We are open to the public on Wednesday through Saturday, 12-5pm, or by appointment.

We are located at PO Box 1234, 4646 Sun View Ave., Joshua Tree, CA 92252.

We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization (FEIN 23-7398947), and donations are tax deductible to the extent of the law.
