MAD.KAT presents its wildest (and weirdest) exhibition yet with YOU THINK I’M PSYCHO, DON’CHA MAMA?, featuring 17 artists that bring the SURREAL, HYPERREAL, and UNREAL.
Frau Sakra’s contribution to this group show includes her paintings “The Deaths of Isadora Duncan and Two of Her Children,” oil on board in hand-painted frame, 17.5 x 26.5”, “The Dichotomous Organist,” oil on board 21.5 x 25.5”, and “The Legend of Lady Lichtenberg,” oil on board in a vintage frame, 23.5 x 29.5”.

ABOUT FRAU SAKRA
Frau Sakra (aka Thea Saks) lives in Los Angeles. She is largely self-taught; but in her first life, when she worked in New York as a book and scientific journal editor, she took night classes at the School of Visual Arts and Parsons School of Design. Now her home library of illustration, design, architecture, and literature helps feed her head with ideas for art. Frau Sakra’s oil paintings and ink drawings tell dark, romantic, or otherwise provocative stories, revisit history, push the envelope, and hopefully make people want to learn more. History, biography, and folklore are often springboards for her work. There’s usually action in her art—something meaningful is happening, or someone is being taken by surprise or experiencing the consequences of their own or someone else’s actions. The art is rarely static. The subject matter is usually but not always dark.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT:
I’m excited to be showing for the first time at Mad Kat Gallery! Each of my three paintings for this show tells a bizarre tale. One is biographical, about how the dancer Isadora Duncan and two of her children died. The other two, which are fictional, tell of a pipe organist who celebrates both good and evil in his music and an 18th-century noblewoman kissed by an electrical charge in the shape of a man.
