The Joshua Tree Music Festival is known for hosting a variety of musical artists that do not adhere to any specific genre. What they do have in common, is that they deliver powerful, potent, and authentic performances which leaves an impression on attendees.

We work really hard to deliver a truly diverse and well-rounded line-up that you won’t see at every other major music festival. A lot of these artists are on the rise, honing their craft, and creating unique, original sounds says festival founder Barnett English.

The latest additions to the lineup include: Vintage Trouble; rock ‘n’ roll’s best kept secret distilling swaggering rock, soulful blues & R&B grooves, My Baby; the roots driven hypnotic dance with gospel, blues and folk influences, The Cole Williams Band; a genre breaking melding of Afro rock, soul, R&B, reggae, and blues, Thumpasaurus; Punk/funk stew with traces of Zappa, Devo, Prince, and Night Glitter; Loulou Ghelichkhani’s (Thievery Corporation) new dreamy psychedelic synth-pop project.

They join dancefloor masters Dynohunter, renowned Berlin-based DJ Oliver Koletzki, Japanese avant-garde rock band Dachambo, Toronto based soul-funkers, After Funk; recent ‘Best New Austin Band’ winners, Trouble In The Streets.

The lineup also features a strong representation of local music talent.  Gene Evaro Jr, Desert Rhythm Project, Myshkin Warbler, The Amritakripa Band, Gabriella Evaro, The Adobe Collective, DEGA, Megan Hutch all make their homes in the high desert.

Also on the lineup: Earth Arrow, Diggin Dirt, Smoked Out Soul,, Baraka Moon, Radio Skies, Revel in Dimes, Moontricks, Youssoupha Sidibe, City of Trees Brass Band, Sahba Motallebi, Jesus Gonzalez, Beats & Rhymes and Subko.

The JTMF experience features several multidisciplinary musical, movement, and spiritual workshops. Yoga classes are held from sunrise to sunset. A diverse selection of vendors can be found in the World Market. Attendees can enjoy a range of bodywork and healing services at the JTMF Healing Oasis. Art is featured throughout the festival grounds via live painting, art installations and more. Numerous food options are available on-site. An action packed Kidsville provides all-day activities and entertainment for the younger attendees, and places JTMF among the leading family-friendly festivals in the USA.

The 17th Annual Fall Joshua Tree Music Festival takes place May 16-19, 2019 at the Joshua Tree Lake RV & Campground, 2601 Sunfair Rd, Joshua Tree, CA.

Arizona Tiki Oasis Brings Tiki Culture to Hotel Valley Ho April 12-14

Mid-Century Beacon of Hollywood Past and Present to Host Arizona’s Premier Tiki Event

Arizona Tiki Oasis (AZTO) is excited to announce its signature island lifestyle party in the middle of the desert at sunny Scottsdale’s mid-century marvel, Hotel Valley Ho, from April 12-14, 2019. AZTO is the sister event to the long-running and beloved Tiki Oasis, which returns to San Diego this summer.

We are thrilled to introduce Tiki Oasis’ rich and varied history to Scottsdale travelers and locals. Hotel Valley Ho is the ideal location for the largest and longest-running Tiki festival in the world, as the property perfectly encapsulates the spirit of the 1950s that we celebrate through classic Tiki culture. – Tiki Oasis / AZTO organizers Otto and Baby Doe Stroheim.

Arizona Tiki Oasis Events

The weekend will kick off with the Tiki-Tiki Ho-Ho Luau, a stylish luau at Hotel Valley Ho’s hip OH Pool, complete with a traditional pig roast, fresh poke bowl station, grilled options including Crispy Cola Marinated Short Ribs, Hawaiian-themed desserts, and of course an array of delicious Tiki cocktails. The Tiki festivities continue with a bustling marketplace featuring more than 60 curated artisans. AZTO presents over 20 educational seminars with topics ranging from tropical cocktail mixology, to the history of Tiki in the Southwest. A pop-up art show will feature international Tiki artists including Japan’s Mookie Sato and Josh Agle (AKA Shag) from Los Angeles, and Scottsdale’s Fashion by Robert Black will be doing a poolside fashion show. Authors Sven Kirsten (The Book of Tiki and Tiki Pop), Beachbum Berry (Grog Log and Sippin Safari), and Shannon Mustipher (Tiki: Modern Tropical Cocktails) will also make appearances at weekend seminars. Evenings will be filled with rooftop parties, cocktail-lounge-style dinners and a swanky suite open to those with the evening resort pass.

In between Tiki cocktails and programming, guests can lounge poolside at the signature OH Pool, indulge in spa treatments at VH Spa and explore the city with the hotel’s new Insider Mid-Century Tour of Scottsdale. Event tickets are sold a la carte and range from $10 seminar tickets to an $80 evening hotel pass. A limited number of Tiki-Tiki Ho-Ho Luau tickets are available for purchase for $99 until April 12.

Tiki Oasis was originally founded to preserve a historic Palm Springs Tiki hotel, so it is only fitting that AZTO be hosted at one of the country’s best preserved mid-century hotels. Benefits will go to the Arizona Preservation Foundation.

Los Angeles artist and gallery owner, Haleh Mashian presents Figurine, a thematic painting collection, Saturday, January 19, 2019, at the Mash Gallery located in the heart of the LA Arts District.

Curated by Helene Brown of Fresh Paint Art Advisors, Figurine by Haleh Mashian presents a diverse selection of contemporary and figural paintings working together to evoke a harmonious narrative. Deeply personal, Haleh’s compositions are painterly reflections fashioned during pinnacle times of her life. Haleh Mashian shares, “Figurine walks inside the mirror of my life.”

Haleh Mashian is also an accomplished composer and fascinated by the similarities shared between color theory and musical composition. Haleh unites euphony with painterly expression and transcends an emboldened symphony of painterly techniques. Figurine is a visual concert featuring Action Painting, Figural art, and Abstraction.

Figurine by Haleh Mashian, opens Saturday, January 19 at 6 PM and entwines three unique painterly themes: Roses, Tears, and the Female Figure. All three motifs represent a twenty-year focus on boldly painting in the moment, working with live models, and incorporating a variety of different mixed media.

Figurine by Haleh Mashian opens at the Mash Gallery, Saturday, January 19 from 6 PM – 9 PM, and on exhibit through March 2, 2019.

The SG101 Convention started in 2008 when the members of www.surfguitar101.com agreed there should be an annual meet & greet for members. The convention features bands, gear, and gives the occasional performing enthusiast a chance to show off their skills on stage. Additionally, a plethora of vendors present their music, merch, and gear up for sale.

The 11th Annual Surf Guitar 101 Convention event celebrates surf music in all forms, from the instrumental tunes that influenced the forefathers, to the bands that created and developed that unmistakable sound, to the current domestic and foreign bands today, either carrying on the tradition of instrumental surf ‘n’ drag tunes in their pure form or progressively changing the face of the genre. There is something for everyone!

Jesika von Rabbit: June L.A., July Southern States, SFTRI, New Album

JESIKA von RABBIT, the former leader of Joshua Tree’s hi-desert trailblazers, GRAM RABBIT, will be performing two shows in Los Angeles, and touring through the Southern states with her longtime musical cohorts, the cinematic psychedelic spaghetti-western SPINDRIFT. A new 45 has been released on Sympathy for the Record Industry and her second solo album will be released the early fall.

In the past few months, JESIKA von RABBIT has released a stream of digital singles, as well as a 45 RPM record featuring “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me” b/w “Din Ho” on the revived Sympathy for the Record Industry label. In the fall of 2018, von RABBIT will release Dessert Rock, her second solo album and the follow-up to her 2015 LP Journey Mitchell, both on Dionysus Records. While Journey Mitchell is laden with new wave-influenced synths, keyboard melodic and infectious dance beats, Dessert Rock is an avalanche of appetizing amalgams that incorporate hints of calypso, sci-fi, psychedelic, rock, electro, and funk.

von RABBIT’s current band line-up includes former GRAM RABBIT guitarist and independent producer Ethan Allen, Dionysus Records’ Lee Joseph on bass, and drummer, Dan Kashuck. von RABBIT has performed at Desert Daze on the bill with IGGY POP and SLEEP and has shared stages with a diverse roster of acts including WANDA JACKSON, CAT POWER, DEATH VALLEY GIRLSTHE CRYSTAL METHOD and has toured with EAGLES OF DEATH METAL. Dubbed “The Queen of the Hi-Desert”, von RABBIT has a menu item named after her at the world renown Pappy & Harriet’s in Pioneertown, CA – the delicious “Nachos von Rabbit” and in spring of 2018, once again won Best Front Woman of the Coachella Valley at the Coachella Valley Weekly Music Awards.

She is drop dead gorgeous and has an absolutely incredible voice. But von RABBIT is more than a pretty chick singer. She is an innovative creator and expressionist as well as one hell of an entertainer… Her show is brilliantly nonsensical; a sonic and visual spectacle that is unlike any other and you cannot take your eyes away. She is an artist that you just have to keep coming back to see because you evolve every time you do. – Coachella Valley Weekly

June ’18: Jasmine Worth, Christopher Ulrich, Ave Rose, Frank Forte at La Luz de Jesus

June 1 – July 1
Artist Reception, Friday, June 1, 8-11 PM
La Luz de Jesus Gallery
4633 Hollywood Blvd,
Los Angeles, CA 90027

In June 2018, La Luz de Jesus Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition by four artists with very divergent styles and practices; Jasmine Worth, Christopher Ulrich, Ave Rose, Frank Forte

Jasmine Worth  Future Past
Future Past is Jasmine Worth‘s fifth exhibition with La Luz de Jesus.  She is a contemporary painter who creates depictions of the symbolic and surreal using techniques and imagery of classical painting. Worth draws on personal experiences that parallel the more significant cultural background, the subconscious being a gateway for commentary on the world around her. The seamless blending of the iconic with the visceral blurs the line between what is sacred and what is profane.

Christopher Ulrich – Into the Light

Christopher Ulrich is a painter of surreal, iconographic images. He is influenced by the richness of ancient mythology, the mystery of alchemy, and the vastness of cosmic reality. Illuminating this dark journey with insight, heart, and determination he strives to understand the revelations that are uncovered in the work.

Frank Forte – The Exploration of the Cartoon Myth

Frank Forte‘s second exhibition with La Luz de Jesus is inspired by a steady diet of classic cartoons, comics and horror films. Frank continues to explore the realm of disturbed characters that seem trapped in a nightmarish animated world. This new series of paintings incorporate the re-appropriation of figures and images we know from the yesteryear of the animated film as well as introducing Frank’s original characters. The Exploration of the Cartoon Myth tries the fuse the old and the new and act as a launching point for the next series of works.

Ave Rose Whimsical Windows

Ave Rose’s Whimsical Windows are vignettes of Taxidermy Automata each their own unique story of life and death fortune and tragedy. A gold-gilded Amazon Tree Boa skeleton plays the role of sorcerer spinning and twisting protecting the sacetimental rose with its beautiful striped petals that are said to hold the power of eternal youth. A coyote skull with its fangs and jaw opened full revealing beehive bouquet a jeweled wasps nest filled multicolored gems that are attended to and lovingly cared for by gold gilded honey bees.
